Ever wonder how you can have the greatest impact on the largest problems facing mankind today?
Seriously, if you had the ability to just step back away from everything and ponder how we, as mere individuals in a sea of humanity, could each contribute solutions to the some of the greatest crisis our planet has ever faced, do you really think you would be able to hazard a guess as to how you would do this?
What if you discovered that doing one simple thing slightly differently than you do every day, week, month, and year could help make our world a much better place?
It would cost you more, at the time of purchase, than you currently pay, but not much. In fact, compared to the benefits you, your loved ones, and the rest of the world would reap, it would be the equivalent to fractions of pennies on the dollar.
Would you do it? You can, and if we all did, there is indisputable scientific proof the world would be much different, for the better.
All that you need to do is purchase organic foods whenever you can. Sound ridiculous? Think about it first, and then decide. The benefits of organic foods are not simply found in the consumption of the products. The true benefits of organic foods are found in the way that they are produced. It’s this latter point that often goes unnoticed.
Conventional foods utilize chemicals to assist in their growth. These chemicals pollute the ground, as well as the water. They create dead zones in the Gulf, and more importantly, they destroy the soil in which the crops are grown. These chemicals, remember, are literally poisons, and they kill not only the weeds around the crops, but also the organisms in the soil that transfer nutrients and retain carbon.
It’s this aspect of conventional farming that underscores the benefits of organic foods. Organic gardens do not use the poisons that conventional farms do, thus the soil structure remains vibrantly strong, holding on to carbon like good soil is supposed to.
What does this mean to us? It means that the levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere are reduced, thus helping to reduce climate change symptoms, whether you believe in global warming or not.
The residual poisons we eat with the conventional foods then lead to health issues, both known and unknown. While cancer, autism, heart disease, and numerous other health afflictions grow, some medical concerns have been traced directly to the chemicals used in our foods.
Other diseases and illnesses remain a mystery that each of us is left to gamble on, hoping that the levels of pesticide truly aren’t “that bad” for us.
The cumulative benefits of organic foods are too numerous to fully identify in one or two documents. The true total benefits of organic foods are more closely equal to the number of people on earth, in part, because that’s who benefits the most, whether we’re all able to partake of organic foods, or not.
It would be ridiculous to expect everyone to eat organic foods all the time, even if the financial resources were available to do so. The practicality and the lack of eating and drinking other, non-organic items, is not expected, or even desired.
What is hoped, however, is that whenever possible, we as individuals consume organic foods and beverages when we can. Even a slight decrease in the consumption of poison is better than no decrease at all, and as we know, the true benefits of organic foods are extremely far-reaching.
